Man dies aboard Aer Lingus flight after biting passenger

In a bizarre incident Sunday, a 24 year old man who was "running amok" on an Aer Lingus flight from Lisbon, Portugal to Dublin, Ireland died aboard the plane.

According to the Irish Mirror, the man was acting violent on the flight and tried to bite at least one fellow passenger. A pilot told controllers the man had "injured one or two passengers," according to the paper.

The man was reportedly restrained by crew members but fell unconscious, and was later declared dead.

The plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Cork, Ireland. The Mirror says all 168 passengers and crew members were taken off the flight. At least one passenger was taken to a local hospital and treated for injuries.

After he was taken off the plane, a number of 'packages' were recovered from the man's body.

An autopsy on the  Brazilian's body has been completed and the packages have been sent for forensic analysis.

John Leonard who was travelling on flight EI-485 when the incident happened said:

"He was actually on the ground shaking violently. The noise he was making was like something I have never heard before. It's not something you'd hear everyday. It was like deep anguish is the best way I could describe it, very, very troubled. Not screaming in a sense, you know if you'd hurt yourself or something, just very guttural, from deep within him."

He said: "To die that way in the back of an aeroplane, it's not right. "It was not very pleasant at all, it was a "very violent end".."

26-year-old banker, Daniel Makanjuola, has been arrested by the Police in Lagos for using a forged West African Senior School Certificate and Lagos State University’s statement of result to get a job at Wema Bank Plc, Marina branch,Lagos Island.

The police said Makanjuola pretended that he was a degree holder in marketing with Second Class, Upper Division, and had also provided a forged National Youth Service Corps discharge certificate and a reference letter to the bank before he gained employment. He claimed to have obtained the letter from United Bank for Africa, where he supposedly worked previously.

According to Punch, Daniel who is from Ijero Local Government Area in Ekiti State, had joined the bank in 2013, before he was sacked in July 2015 after the documents were confirmed to be fake.

It was gathered that the fraudulent act was discovered after WEMA Bank management had sent a verification letter UBA to to verify the authenticity of the reference letter. UBA was said to have denied any knowledge of Makanjuola and the letter.

After the discovery, the bank decided to write West African Examinations Council and LASU, to confirm the veracity of his documents but both exam bodies disclaimed the results Makanjuola had presented to WEMA

The suspect was arrested after the case was reported at the Lion Building Police Station.

After his arrest, the suspect, in a statement to the police confessed to the crime and explained how he obtained the forged certificates.

He said he made the fake documents because he couldn't get a job and he wanted to alleviate the poverty in his family.

He said:

“I am actually a National Diploma holder. I secured the fake WASCE and LASU results, using a search engine and CorelDraw application. I scanned an NYSC certificate and used some applications to edit it. I did it in order to put an end to the suffering of my poor family. I am the only son of my father. I want the authority to be compassionate with my case. I was only trying to live a better life.”

A police prosecutor, Inspector I. Okeke, arraigned Makanjuola at the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court on three counts of forgery.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges before the presiding magistrate, Mr. A. Adefulire.

Adefulire granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. He adjourned the case till October 22, 2015.

Policemen Turned-Robbers Meet Waterloo (Photo)

The armed robbery campaign of some turncoat policemen ended when they were arrested during a joint operation of the Anambra State Commissioner of Police Monitoring Unit and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the command.

The two policemen, 38-year-old Corporal I.L.O. Peter, serving at Oguta Division of the Imo State Police Command and Constable Nicholas Ogbianu, 37, who was dismissed from the Delta State Police Command, were arrested in Onitsha, Anambra State, for robbery and for impersonation respectively.

Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hosea Karma told Sunday Sun that the Commander of Anambra SARS, Supol James Nwafor and his men had been keeping close tabs on the two alleged police culprits, following reports by individuals that they had been robbed or their vehicles snatched on the highway by policemen who were wrongly assumed by innocent members of the public, to be on official duty at checkpoints. Deeply disturbed by the increasing number of such reports, a special dragnet was laid out by the command to apprehend the rotten eggs, whose evil activities had given the police an odorous smell before the public.

It was not long before the perpetrators fell into the net of the police. As Sunday Sun learnt from Karma, the alleged bad egg Corporal Peter and accomplices, Ekene Uche Ohanusi and Benjamin Obinwanne, were caught during one of their operations.

Recounting some of the past escapades of the gang, Karma said: “The gang has been involved in several cases of armed robbery operations and snatching of cars along Onitsha-Owerri Expressway and robbed several commercial vehicles both during the day and at night.

Also, we also got intelligence information that some policemen had been robbing people along the highway. So we set up a monitoring team that worked with the Commander of SARS and his men. That was how we arrested the suspect, Corporal Peter and his gang members during their operation.”

He explained that Ogbianu was dismissed from the Delta State Police Command, following his transfer to Adamawa State Police Command in 2013. Karma said that Ogbianu launched into a new ‘career’ of impersonating genuine police officers and engaging in illegal duties at Onitsha and collecting money from motorists and commercial motorcyclists.

It was in the course of this that officers of the CP’s Monitoring Unit arrested him at No. 1 Anglican Lane, Nkpor-Agu, Upper Iweka, Onitsha, while fully dressed in police uniform.

The suspect, Corporal Peter, who spoke with Sunday Sun said: “I was recruited into the Nigeria Police Force at Oji-Rivers Police College, Enugu State, in 1999 and posted to Imo State Police Command, where I was serving at the Oguta Division of the state command.”

Continuing, he told Sunday Sun: “I formed a gang of armed robbers. We robbed passengers travelling from Anambra State to Imo State. Sometimes, we will mount road block as if we are carrying out stop-and-search, and then rob the people or snatch big cars from the owners.

After snatching the car, a member of the gang will sell the car and give me my own share, which may be from N100,000 to N200,000.

Peter further disclosed that he is a native of Udi Local Government Area, Enugu State, adding he received regular returns from members of his gang even when he was on course at the police college.

His words: “I went on course for promotion to rank of corporal at Oji River Police College, Enugu State. My gang members still continued with the armed robbery operations and always sent money to me during the course.

I went into armed robbery five years ago. Sometimes, I give out my arm and ammunition to the gang to use for armed robbery operations. I never imagined that one day I would be caught.

“On June 5, 2015, a member of the gang and myself snatched a Lexus SUV with registration number BBC 105JT, along Ozubulu road, belonging to one Mrs. Jennifer Adaeze Ohizu and we wanted to sell the car in Aba.

We also snatched another Toyota SUV at Okija, Anambra State and collected some ransom from the victims. We made money when we sold the SUV.”

When Sunday Sun visited the Imo State Police Command to verify the information about Peter, our correspondent learnt from a senior police source that policeman turned robbery suspect was working in the Store Department at the headquarters of the command, Owerri, before it was discovered that items were missing.

Through a careful investigation, it was discovered that Peter had allegedly stolen the items.

He was reprimanded and on compassionate grounds transferred to Oguta Police Division in the hope that he would turn a new leaf. The source said the command was shocked to learn that Peter had allegedly turned to armed robbery.

Following his arrest by the Anambra State Police Command, the source told Sunday Sun that the Imo State Police Command summarily dismissed the robbery suspect in line with police regulations.

The Commander of Anambra SARS, Supol James Nwafor disclosed to Sunday Sun that his men were able to recover the Lexus SUV snatched from Ohizu and operational weapons of the gang. He also said that other members who escaped would be tracked down.

Meanwhile, two members of the gang, Ekene Uche Ohanusi and Benjamin Obinwanne, are cooling their heels in custody and helping the police with their investigations.

Married Man Poisons Pregnant Girlfriend, Buries Her In Shallow Grave

The people of Ezeakam Eziudo community in Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area, Imo State, still shudder at the recollection of the heinous act of their kinsman, 39-year-old Chamberlin Ojoko, who allegedly gave his pregnant girlfriend, Chinonye Ella, 25, a local abortion concoction.

The concoction caused fatal adverse reaction that resulted in her death, on July 20, 2015. Like someone acting out a well-scripted plan, Ojoko was alleged to have calmly gone home to borrow a shovel from his brother, Pastor Sopuruchi and buried the corpse of the deceased girlfriend in a shallow grave, which he dug at the back of an uncompleted building owned by one Dr Maduakolam Ukaegbu, a kinsman.

According to the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Taiwo Lakanu, the chain of events that ultimately led to the untimely death of Chinonye began the day she boarded the same bus with Ojoko in December 2014, at Achingali, in Obowo Local Government Area, Imo State.

They chatted along the way as the trip progressed and then exchanged phone numbers. While Chinonye lived in Umuahia, Ojoko on his part resided in Port Harcourt. Over the intervening period, Ojoko regularly invited her to Owerri, where they would lodge in a hotel and have fun. After each visit, he would give her N3,000 to N4,000 to cover her transportation costs. This continued until Chinonye informed him that she had become pregnant.

Apparently, the news that she had conceived was not well received by Ojoko, who set about sourcing for a local concoction, probably after convincing her on the need to abort the innocent unborn child.

Lakanu explained further that on July 20, 2015, the suspect took Chinonye to an uncompleted building at Ezeakam Eziudo, his community, where he gave her the local abortion concoction. Within hours, her condition became critical as intense pain wracked her body, particularly around the stomach.

At the headquarters of the Imo State Police Command, where he is being held in custody while investigations continue, Ojoko recounted to Sunday Sun, what happened that fateful night he gave his girlfriend the abortion concoction.

He said: “On July 20, 2015, I took my girlfriend to an uncompleted building around 6:30pm. My girlfriend took the herbal medicine, but later she started writhing in pain. Then she died. I ran to my house and took a shovel; I carried her body to the side of the building. I dug the ground and buried her in a shallow grave.”

Believing in his heart that he had covered his deed like Cain, who killed his brother Abel, Ojoko returned to Port Harcourt, to the warm embrace of his unsuspecting and pregnant wife.

But unknown to him, a certain little girl had seen him carry out the dead body of Chinonye, and dump it in the grave he dug.

The little girl later told the owner of the building about the horrific crime she saw. After the shock of the revelation wore off, Dr. Ukaegbu ran to the Ezinihitte police station to report what he was told by the girl.

The police station contacted the Head of the Homicide Unit at the Imo State headquarters in Owerri, Supol Innocent Obi, who led his men, Pastor Sopuruchi Ojoko (brother of the suspect) and Dr. Ukaegbu, to Port Harcourt, where Chamberlain Ojoko was arrested.

Giving further insight to the incident, brother of the suspect, Pastor Sopuruchi Ojoko, told Sunday Sun: “I saw my brother Chamberlin Ojoko and his girlfriend on that day around 3.00pm. They didn’t enter our house in the compound; instead they walked toward Eziudo road. About 9:00pm, I saw that my elder brother, Chamberlin, returned to the house without the girl.

“He requested for shovel and took it to the bush. He didn’t return till 11:00pm. I asked him where he was coming from at that late hour; he said he went to the toilet. I asked him, why he came to the village without informing us.

He replied that he was working at the building site. I saw bruises and wounds on his hand. When information got to us that my elder brother murdered his girlfriend, I had to take the policemen to Port-Harcourt to arrest him.”

On August 15, 2015, the body of the deceased girlfriend was exhumed and autopsy conducted. The policemen discovered how he used the deceased girlfriend’s cloth to choke her. There were stains of the victim’s blood at the uncompleted building.

The police also learnt that the suspect threw away the handset of the deceased girlfriend.

As it stands now, Lakanu said the Command is concerned to locate the relations of the deceased given that her handset which could have offered assistance in this regard was thrown away by the suspect.

“We want members of the public to assist us and provide information that would help us find the relations of the deceased. We learnt from the suspect that the deceased resided in Umuahia, Abia State, before her demise,” Lakanu pleaded.

Also, the suspect will soon be charged to court after completion of the investigation.

Top 10 Hottest Rappers In Nigeria For 2015

Just like last year, 2015 has been a relatively dull year for hip-hop in Nigeria causing many to question whether hip-hop is dying in Nigeria, or if it was ever alive long enough to be considered seriously.

Then again it could just be a redefinition of Nigerian hip-hop as we know it transitioning into a genre more in tune with Nigerian ears.

However way you look at it though, it’s been relatively quiet for many hip-hop fans. But that doesn’t mean there weren’t some folks doing their thing this year, and putting out solid projects.

So without too much gist, let’s get into the top 10 hottest rappers in Nigeria 2015. This is based on released material in late 2014 into 2015. We’re going off solid content, public impact, and general industry buzz.

10. Lil Kesh

Has there really been a hotter street anthem than Lil Kesh‘s Shoki over the past year?

Though it was released in 2014, the tune buzzed very well into 2015, when you have one the hottest tunes like that, along with a slew of other tracks you have to be in contention for one of the hottest rappers of the year.

He’s also put out other hot street anthems, EfejokuGbese, and just recently, Is It Because I Love You, along with numerous high profile features with the likes of Iyanya, Samklef and Suspect.

All in all, 2015 has been a really good year for Lil Kesh, now we expect the album in 2016.

9. IllBliss

Say what you want about iLLy, he’s one of the most super consistent rappers in Nigeria, steady putting in his work and staying true to his style.

He has released a slew of tracks this year alone along with his 3rd studio album, Powerful, which many critics have rated as a solid piece of work.

Some folks hate on IllBliss’s style of rap, but what you can’t hate on with IllBliss is his sincere flow.

His style hits very well in the streets where it counts the most, and that’s why he’s always booked for shows all year round.

8. Vector

Even though Vector hasn’t released any project in the past year, he’s still been very visible and active releasing a number of dope tracks, the most prominent being King Kong.

Vector went ahead to release 3 remixes to the song featuring the likes of Sarkodie, Phyno, Reminisce and Classiq. Vector’s flow is probably his most attractive attribute, with an ability to switch from english to pidgin to yoruba all in one verse.

Other dope tracks from Tha Viper include, Kanawan Dabo, and his super nice freestyle, Freestyle Vee. Add the slew of features he’s been on, and it’s been a pretty decent year for Vector, albeit not the hottest.

7. Naeto C

Naeto C had a relatively quiet 2014, and coming into 2015, the general feeling was that maybe his time had passed. With the exception of the generally average Helele, and China, we didn’t get much material from Naeto C.

But then just a couple of months ago, Naeto C dropped what many have called the best hip-hop project this year, Day 1. And after listening to it, it’s hard to argue with that. The album features 13 solid tracks and is as hip-hop as you’ll get in 2015. Dope beats, dope bars making a dope project.

With many already questioning if Naeto C was done and dusted, it’s good to see Naeto bounce back with a major project in 2015, and that’s why he has to make this list.

6. Boogey

Boogey is one the few purest left in hip-hop in Nigeria. He’s really about his flow, and lyricisms as opposed to catchy beats and singing hooks (no beef at others). It’s no surprise that often times he puts out his music with the lyrics… Just in case you want to really get it.

Boogey put out a really dope mixtape earlier this year with producer Charlie X, titled, T.I.N.A.A (This is Not An Acronym), and it’s arguably one of the dopest pure rap projects of the year.

At a time where the art of releasing mixtapes is dying, it’s super refreshing to see someone still stay true to the art. This mixtape in many ways reminds one of Nas’ IllMatic…. Pure!

Besides the mixtape, Boogey also dropped other singles, and featured on tracks that he pretty much killed. You only have to check his Get Down remake where you can say he kinda outdid what Jay Electronica did on it.

5. Falz

Between his blazing hot tracks, and his hilarious instagram clips, Falz has been one of the hottest names in Nigerian entertainment, especially where the Internet is concerned. Sometimes we forget that he’s a rapper first before a comedian.

Even though he didn’t have a major project this year, his 2014 album Wazup Guy carrying enough momentum into 2015 with the smash hit, Marry Me featuring Poe & Yemi Alade.

In addition to that he’s had a slew of dope tracks and appearances in 2015 including Celebrity Girlfriend, Jamb Question Remix, Ello Bae, and of course the big one, Karashika. Really in 2015, it’s hard to call hot Nigerian rappers without mentioning Falz.

4. Phyno

It’s easy to make a case for Phyno being the hottest rapper in the game this year, but for us he lands right here on #4.

Between his collaboration album with Olamide, 2 Kings, his heavy singles Nnunu, Connect, and Oringo, and his countless number of heavy hitting singles, it’s easy justify Phyno being one of the hottest in the game in 2015.

He brings something different to the game; a certain style, a certain swag. And while rapping in your native language is hot, he’s one of the best right now.

Hopefully he wraps up the year with his much anticipated album.

3. MI

This time last year were you looking at MI suspiciously? Like Bros how far now? You wont be the only one. After a 4 year album hiatus, MI delivered one of the best albums of 2014 in Chairman.

The album proved to every hip-hop fan in Nigeria, that MI is still King, and even if he stays quiet sometimes (material wise), he’s still one of the undisputed dopiest rappers in Nigeria.

It was the best of MI combined with the best of what’s trending now, and the singles carried him well into 2015.

The hit tracks from the album Bad BelleShekpe, Bullion Van have been in heavy rotation all year round keeping his name hot. Plus he’s done well with jumping on features to keep his name buzzing.

2. Olamide

Is Olamide still a rapper? That’s the question many people have been asking since Olamide has switched up his style a little in the past year.

Well is Drake still a rapper? And he’s a self proclaimed singing nigga. So yea, Olamide is still a rapper. Even if his big tunes see him singing, he still drops bars seriously, and his 2 Kings album with Phyno is testament to that.

Now when you get over his status as a rapper, you’ll see that Olamide is one of the hottest artist in Nigeria never mind just as a rapper.

Look at the hit list, and you’re bound to find Olamide on there. BoboLagos Boys, are just a few of the numerous tunes Olamide dropped this year that had made major impact.

When you have the whole country dancing Shakiti Bobo, I don’t think many people care how you do it. Rap, Sing or Cough.

1. Reminisce

Reminisce is arguably the rapper of the year in 2015, and that’s a big argument because depending on what day of the week, you can make a case for Olamide also, but for the hip-hop joints he’s dropped in 2015, we’ll give the nod to Reminisce.

Reminisce dropped one of the hottest pure hip-hop tracks in 2015, Local Rappers, and followed that up with another dope joint, Skilashii.

All this leading to his 3rd studio album, Baba Hafusa, which stayed up on the the iTunes chart for weeks.

Throw in his numerous dope features through the year, one of the best being Shekpe on MI’s Chairman, and it’s not hard to see how Reminisce might be on top of Hip-Hop in Nigeria in 2015.

His flow, his bars, his brand, and general commercial acceptability have all gone up a big notch in 2015.

Akpabio Returns Home After EFCC Invitation, Says He Has Nothing To Hide

Former Governor of Akwa Ibom State and Senate Minority Leader, Chief Godswill Akpabio, has returned to his Abuja residence after his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Friday, affirming that he has nothing to hide about his term in office as the governor of Akwa Ibom State.

Akpabio, who was governor of the state between 2007 and 2015, was yesterday invited at about 5. 20pm to the Abuja Headquarters of the EFCC, over a petition dated June 22, 2015 and addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari and the EFCC.

The petitioner whose name was given as Leo Ekpenyong alleged that Akpabio, fraudulently converted N108.1bn belonging to Akwa Ibom State during his tenure as governor.

Using the Twitter handle, @SenAkpabio managed by his social media team, the ex-Governor disclosed that he has arrived home some hours after.

According to the tweets, “His Excellency, Senator Akpabio is back to the house. We want to reaffirm that he has nothing whatsoever to hide about his term in office in Akwa Ibom.”

In an earlier tweet, @SenAkpabio had tweeted: “Senator Akpabio was never arrested. He simply obliged an invitation to come and answer some questions at the EFCC headquarters.

“Senator Akpabio has nothing to hide that’s why he walked into EFCC himself this evening to answer questions about his tenure in Akwa Ibom.

“Those who are playing politics with the decision of Senator Akpabio to honour the EFCC invitation must be acting a known script.

“Senator Akpabio was called from EFCC to come for explanations and he drove there himself 50 minutes later. So, why all the news of arrest?” his team asked.

Indeed, wonders shall never end! A pastor from Cross River State, identified as Pastor Oliver Akpan has been stabbed to death by a woman who claims he tried to r*pe her during a deliverance session.

According to reports, Pastor Akpan, married with six children, had long been suspected to sleep with some of his church members, both the married ones and the single ladies but unfortunately for him he met his match in the woman identified as Mrs. Ekamma, who is also married with two children.

Mrs Ekamma had gone to the Pastor to seek help over some spiritual attack she was facing and Pastor Akpan had recommended a three day dry fasting for the woman to be carried out in the church and on the final day, have a spiritual bath to ward off the evil spirit.

After going through the fast, the pastor led the woman to a stream to have the spiritual bath…

But he had other ideas in mind as he was said to have told the woman that part of the bath included having s*x with her but when she refused, he attempted to forcefully have his way with another man’s wife.

As the woman tried to free herself, she allegedly picked up a sharp stick and stabbed him in the stomach, before running to the village to alert other members of the community.

By the time they got to the spot, the wounded pastor had lost consciousness as he bled profusely. He was rushed to a hospital where doctors confirmed he died before he was brought in.

The woman was initially arrested by police but was released on bail while investigation is still on going.
