There are two types of artistes in the Nigerian music industry: Olamide and others
Why do we say Olamide and others? Well the YBNL boss is the only artiste in the country that has dropped an album each year since 2011 when he released his debut project, “Rapsodi”.
What about the rest? There are very few artistes in the country at the moment who have more albums to their names than Baddo, and none has released an album every year for 4 consecutive years, hence they are tagged as the rest.
Not releasing albums is now the latest trend in the industry now, but why?
The reason is not farfetched; albums are the least income generating revenue for artistes now. Unlike years ago, when one needs to drop an album before being able to make good money from his/her craft, an artiste can live off endorsements alone, not forgetting the huge appearance fees they are now able to command.
Don Jazzy’s latest recruitsReekado Banks, Korede Bello andDi’ja are the perfect examples of artistes who now rake in millions without releasing albums.
If you are a talented artiste, the industry is more favourable now than it was some years back. All you have to do is record nice singles, distribute them and the rest will work itself out, but don’t forget this will only work if you a truly good.
